If you own a motorcycle, you’ll know how it important it is to keep it in great condition. You want to stay on top of your maintenance tasks and keep your motorcycle looking awesome! Our team at Beaverhead Motorsports has put together a quick guide for cleaning your motorcycle the right way.

Prep Your Space First

When you think about cleaning your motorcycle, you may not immediately think about where you’ll park it. However, the area you choose can be important in order to avoid standing water or too much direct sunlight. Although you’ll want to wash your bike on a sunny day, direct sun can cause your soap to dry too quickly and leave unsightly waterspots!

You’ll also want to find an area with adequate drainage to avoid creating giant water and soap puddles. This can be harmful for grass and plants nearby. As you choose the right cleaning space, you’ll also want to gather all your supplies.

Start With a Rinse

Once you’ve found the ideal location to park your motorcycle, you’ll start by rinsing it well with water. After the initial rinse, add in a motorcycle cleaner that is specifically designed for your paint and body type.

Using a garden hose is the best option for rinsing because a powerwasher can actually cause damage.

Scrub With a Sponge and Bristle Brush

After the initial rinse that knocked away loose debris, you can use the same soap mixture to scrub any remaining debris. It’s best to use a sponge for the body and a soft-bristed brush for any harder to reach areas. Don’t forget to scrub the wheels and underside of the motorcycle as best you can.

When you finish scrubbing and rinse away the soap, make sure allow your motorcycle to completely dry before taking it for a spin! If you want to be fancy, you can also add wax.
